Situated in the very heart of the picturesque county town of Lewes, The Crown Inn offers comfortable B&B accommodation at reasonable rates.  

The earliest mention of the Inn was as The Black Lyon in 1675 when Henry Townsend was the landlord, changing to The Crown in 1790 under the care of Joseph Spittle. We believe we are the oldest continuously trading Inn in Lewes.

The Inn is the headquarters of one of Lewes' famous bonfire societies, Waterloo, who prepare year-round for the magnificent Lewesian celebrations of November 5th.

Conservatory views

The dining room is situated off the conservatory, which was added in the Victorian era.  

We have 8 guest rooms available, most ensuite.  The family room, which sleeps up to 4 adults, features a four-poster bed, and one further double room also has a four-poster. Ensuite rooms have either shower/wc or shower/wc and bath.  All rooms have tea and coffee making facilities and hairdryers, and a selection of Sky TV channels.  All rates include full English breakfast and VAT.

Rates for the year 2004 are;

Single:  Offsuite £38.00  Ensuite £48   Double: Offsuite £60  Ensuite £70  

Family Room: £80 + £7.50 per child or £15 per additional  adult

Lunches are available 7 days a week in the Bar or Conservatory. Dinner is served 6pm - 8pm Monday to Thursday.

Family Room

Lewes is the ideal touring base for the beautiful surrounding countryside and coastline, including attractions such as Glyndebourne, the South Downs, Plumpton Races, and the new city of Brighton and Hove.  The town itself is dominated by the ruins of a Norman castle, and is filled with bookshops, antique shops and galleries.  Away from the coast the visitor will find unspoilt countryside and villages offering a perfect  opportunity for walking, cycling and riding.

We are pleased to have been awarded 3 Diamonds by the English Tourism Council for 2003.
